Day 1 – Thursday – Away Day

This morning, we will check-in at Miami International Airport for our 2:00 p.m. flight to Havana, where we should arrive at 3:00pm. This schedule is subject to change but is a good estimate.

Upon our Havana arrival, we collect our bags, clear customs and meet our local guide. Then, off we drive to Havana with a scheduled stop and photo shoot at Revolution Square. Next, we  check into our rooms at the five-star Hotel Melia Cohiba, where we will spend the next three nights. At night, we visit La Casa del Habano at the exclusive beachfront Club Habana. This is one of the top cigar shops in Havana and is situated in what was once the Havana Biltmore Yacht and Country Club. Our dinner at Club Habana’s Restaurant Chelo is included.

Day 2 – Friday- Havana

We will begin the day in Old Havana, walking through historic squares and parks. Some venues are famous for book sellers, artists and musicians who line the sidewalks showing their wares.  We visit a social project that is unlike any other. The Arte Corte began as a single purpose training place for people in the neighborhood. Here, hairdressers and barbers learned their trade. The concept caught on and today Arte Corte is a masterpiece of community regeneration that not only improved the neighborhood but also supports social centers, a senior home and a children’s park.

We will lunch in Old Habana before visiting Hotel Ambos Mundos, where Ernest Hemingway kept a private room for years. The hotel was his creative sanctuary, where he created For Whom the Bell Tolls, and where he could recover after frequenting his favorite nightspots. You will see Hemingway’s room en route to enjoying a mojito on the rooftop terrace. We end the afternoon with a visit to Partagas, one of Havana’s premier cigar factories, where a premier cigar shop is housed.

We will rest for a fantastic night out courtesy Dave and Yordi starting with drinks at the historic Hotel Nacional whose panoramic view of the Caribbean is unparalleled. We’ll follow cocktails with a drive along the Malecon across the bay for stunning sunset views of Havana coming to life in the evening.

Dinner at La Divina Pastora will also feature some of the best views of Havana from across the water. After dinner, we’ll enjoy  Cuban music at Café Taberna in Old Havana where the famed Buena Vista Social Club revue will keep us thoroughly entertained. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

Day 3 – Saturday – Vinales Valley Day Trip

We will enjoy private transport to and from the rich tobacco fields and picturesque landscape of Vinales Valley. There is no place like this on the planet. We drive west to the province of Pinar Del Rio where the famous Vinales Valley boasts Cuba’s most strikingly beautiful landscapes and where the island’s best tobacco is grown. We will visit a remarkable family operated tobacco farm and witness the many challenges Cuban farmers endure.

Next, we visit a tobacco grading and sorting facility in Vinales town. This is a crucial step in the fine cigar making process. If time permits before lunch, we will walk through a huge limestone cave formed inside one of the many spectacular mogotes or limestone karst outcroppings. We will next board a boat for a fascinating river tour deep inside the cave. At our destination, we will sample the homegrown vegetables grown at an organic farm and meeting our hosts, the family responsible for the land and who will prepare our lunch. We cap off our day by meeting locals in the small community of Vinales before returning to Havana. Tonight, we say goodbye to Havana with dinner at the Café Laurent, a premier Habana restaurant. All meals are included again today.

Day 4 – Sunday – Havana and Miami

Depending on our airline schedule, we may have time to visit San Francisco de Paula, the town located just outside Havana, where we pay homage to “Papa” Hemingway at his classic home, Finca Vigia. The residence was preserved as it was on the day of his death. Our Cuban guide specializes in his life and work and will help us better understand the mystery of America’s foremost author.
